Weekly Manicure :) Rei and Sailor Mars

Today I am going to show you two manicures pertaining to the Sailor Moon Series. Actually one of the manicures lays the groundwork for the second one which is slightly more flashy.  This week I was inspired by The Saint Mary Fireworks at Mqabba and then I later noticed that I could combine the same manicure to Sailor Mars (fire is an essential element in both cases) and Rei.

A little about Saint Mary Fireworks Factory Mqabba

Basically this is the best fireworks factory that we have in Malta. This year the only other factory that impressed me as much, or maybe a little less, was the Lourdes Fireworks Factory of Qrendi. Mqabba and Qrendi are neighbors with only a small stretch of street dividing them and are eternal rivals when it comes to fireworks. Anyways, the SM Factory (nothing to do with SMTown) has won several titles both nationally and internationally, and they annually present a show at the Mqabba Bypass on the eve of the 15th August which is a public holiday dedicated to the Assumption of Saint Mary and the arrival of a Convoy during the last war which saved the country.  People refer to the feast as the Convoy of Saint Mary because it is a general belief that Saint Mary interceeded (miracle) to aid the convoy to make it to our harbour on the day that the Maltese dedicate to her.  My general history may be a little lacking. Anyway I will post a video cortousy of  HipHopFroggyProduction who uploaded it on youtube, for you to enjoy!

Moving on... I decided to combine this manicure to Rei Hino from Sailor Moon because the base colour is deep blood red, and red is actually the girl's colour, plus it is also reminiscent of fire.  The second phase of the manicure is dedicated to Sailor Mars because it is a little more elaborate and features an item from her fuku as you shall see.

Products used:

Lioele Nail Hardener as Base and Top Coat

Yesny Nail polish in red (bought locally)

Phase 1:

This lays down the ground work for the completed manicure and basically consists of applying the base coat and then 1 coat of red polish. I applied only one rather thick coat and since the polish I used is not exactly one of the top listers in good quality I had to do my nails twice to get it right!  When you buy cheap stuff, you only get cheap results :(

                                                      Phase 2:

This stage consists of applying the nail water decals. I chose a design from my silver stars in mirror image and applied one on each ring finger. It is rather easy to apply these decals, all you have to do is cut out the design you want from your sheet with small sharp scissors, remove the protective plastic and soak them in water for like a minute, then gently slide it off the back card (thick paper) and place it on your nail. Don't forget to dip your nail in water before placing the decal. Remove any creases, tap the excess water with a piece of kitchen towel and apply top coat.  I always apply two coats to be on the safe side :)

Nail Polish isn't perfect! It required 2 full days to dry completely and it started melting away at the tips!

Weekly Manicure :)

Hello Everyone!!!!!  I am back with this week's manicure! Forgive me for posting so late... so long for 'Monday Manicure' .. I am soooo busy right now with work and stuff that I haven't even got time to work on Taemin

Anyways, since the flower decal from last week survived a week's workload I decided to work around it for this manicure and I got inspired to create a look to match another character from  Bishōjo Senshi aka Sailor Moon.  I skipped quite a lot of characters though and moved straigh to Michiru... Milena for those who watched the series in Italian :)

My favorite Sailors ever :) 

A little about Michiru:

A very polite, calm and gentle character, graceful and delicate with an aura of sophistication.  A very intelligent person and a lover of arts and music.  According to Usagi, Michiru is the ideal example of a princess :) 

For my representation of Michiru, I thought of incorporating my flower decal which would represent Michiru's love for art and a Holographic blue polish which reflects her powerfull character and her mother planet (Neptune). It also mirrors her hair :)

Since I am working around my detailed ring fingers which already have the silver and flowers on them, I will only give you the basic steps to finish off the rest of the nails, which is pretty simple. You can check out how to apply water decals in last week's manicure here :)

So step 1 as usual is to apply a base coat. I choose my Lioele nail hardener as usual :) I am really obsessed with this one!

Step 2 - 4 apply thin coats of Blue holographic polish on all nails except the ring fingers. Make sure that you allow each coat to dry completely. This polish dries super fast but still give it some time.  Apply 3 coats of silver holo polish onto the ring fingers :)

Step 5 - Apply a top coat to your nails to protect the finish and make it last longer. I used the Nail hardener :)

Step 6 would be to apply the water decals and Step 7 top them off with 2 coats of top coat for extra protection :) This is better explained here.

Manicure Tuesday :)

Hello everyone!!! Sorry for the delay with this week's manicure... for a change I was over busy ;)


This week's manicure is inspired by my long-time favorite Anime :

 

Plus I was really excited to try out my new nail polish :)

So first up is Usagi Tsukino (Bunny for the Maltese and Italians) in the First Season of Sailor Moon.  Here she was still a 14 year-old clumsy crybaby :P I will be doing more looks to reflect her transformation from one series to the next untill I reach the Sailor Moon Stars Season. So look forward to that.

Anyway... In this season, Usagi is 14 years old and is not exactly into nails so her nails are a normal short length that 14 year-old students sport.  She probably hasn't got the patience for complex manicures either so as she would rather spend her time shopping or playing video games.  Her favourite colours are pink and white and since she is a lazy and clumsy girl, I believe she woul just make do with clear polish.  To reflect a look that Usagi might sport when she is really into looking cute, I decided to do a manicure using light pink and while going through my stash (which is currently dwindling) I stumbled on the new polish that was sent to my by Alice from  W2Beauty with my SHINee Mini me - ETUDE House Ice Cream Nails in PK001. The Manicure is simple in one colour which also reflects Usagi's careless personality in this series. I didn't want to do anything particularly complicated.

This polish comes in a package that is soooo cute and since we all know that Usagi falls head over heals for cute stuff and adores ice cream, this nail polish is made to measure :)

So here we go with the tutorial:

The products that I used are my all-time favorite Lioele Nail Hardener which you can buy from Pretty&Cute

and the gorgeous Etude House Ice Cream nails in PK001 which as already stated before, was given to me by Alice from W2Beauty who also has it in stock :)

The Manicure is quite simple:

1. Apply 1 coat of base coat polish - Nail hardener
2. apply 2 coats of PK001 nail Polish. Make sure that each coat dries perfectly before applying the next or else it will turn out a mess.  Etude's polish dries out pretty quick so it shouldn't be a problem.
3. Apply 1 coat of top coat - Nail hardener 

The Final Look is shown below:

 

I chipped a nail so I had to shorten everything.  Quite sad about it but at least it turned out pretty good for this Usagi look :) Tell me what you think in the comments below! Do you think Usagi would actually wear this look?

Mini-Review - Etude House Ice Cream Nails - PK001

Here are my thoughts about the Nail polish:

• It looks better when applied to the nails than in the bottle. Somehow the colour is that of dirty pink in the container.
• The packaging is extra cute!
• The brush is not too wide and not too thin so it makes application easy
• The consistency is rather liquidy which is good to prevent bubbles and solid bits sticking in the nails
• Fast drying 
• It is a little stinky but it doesn't affect me much
• It needs to be applied in one thick coat for a good finish. Apparently all Etude polishes are like that. The downside here is that you really have to do nothing for some time to allow it to dry completely. The thicker the coat the longer it takes to dry.

The colous is a bright bubblegum pink which is really really sweet. It does remind me of strawberry ice cream as well.

Overall rating:

I rate this polish a 4.5 Pink Diamonds and I reduced that little because I am not fond of thick coats.  I am always on the run and usually do my polish in between things and don't have time to stick around waiting for it to dry so I prefer polishes which can build up in very thin coats. I would buy this product again though cause I love the packaging and the colour and also the final result is just precious :)
